Running Log: Week 13

Hell Week: Part 1 is over and done with. I ran 32k on Saturday and had one simple goal: beat last year's time of 3:49:49. I was confident I could do it, but to be honest, I wish I had run a bit faster. I'll try to speed things up when I do it again in 2 weeks.

5 weeks to marathon.

Week of Oct. 16 - Oct. 22
10/17: 8k, 45:55
10/18: 13k, 1:19:11
10/19: 8k, 47:14
10/21: 8k, 47:44
10/22: 32k, 3:40:19 (pace - 6:53)

Total: 69k, 7:20:23
Average Pace: 06:22

I've been doing some running to prep for a 5K. How do you prevent or treat soreness below the knees such as shin splints? It seems that's my most sore-prone area.

First thought that comes to mind is make sure you have the right shoes. Shoes differentiate depending on how you roll your feet. Any athletic store should be able to help you with that.

Another thought is a combination of stretches and strengthening exercises. Google should help with that. One that comes to mind is putting your weight on your heels and lift up your toes in a series of reps. This should help strengthen that muscle along the shin.

Good luck with your 5k!
